Originally from New Brunswick, I’m currently living and working in the Capital Region as an artist, administrator and teacher. My artistic practice incorporates sculpture, video and photography. Given the scale of audiences online and the ease of sharing creative content through online platforms, moving forward I’m focusing less on gallery exhibitions and more on digital media.
I started making videos while doing my MFA at the University of Ottawa from 2011-2013. They were short experimental works that reveal the influence that specific environments can have on individuals. With very little dialogue, the performances are often improvised. I also like to interview the public in order to gain a general perspective on topics such as culture, architecture and lived experiences in particular spaces. Most recently I shot and edited a music video for Fire Queen. View a selection of videos here and visit my Vimeo page to see more.
I’ve had a camera since I can remember and lately have put much more emphasis on creating images and understanding this prolific medium. View a selection of photographs here and visit my instagram to see more @mersnider.
